If you’re like me, youn want to have all your bases covered when out and about with baby. You never know what kind of situation will pop up, and with a baby in tow is the best to be prepared for anything! I’ve Finally found the perfect mix of items that allow you to feel secure when leaving the house, but don’t have you lugging the whole world around with you.
Here’s what’s currently in my diaper bag:
Diapers this item goes without saying. There’s a very good chance you will need to change your baby’s diaper (or two, or three!), and having to go buy a whole new pack when you’re out is not ideal. The honest company makes super cute, earth friendly diapers that you won’t mind pulling out in public! Make sure to pack at least two.
Wipes to go with the diapers. I use a slim pack that is made for traveling- that way i don’t have to lug the bulkier pack that i use at home.
– A burp-cloth(or two) An extra cloth is necessary for all the possible spills, spit ups, and burp situations you may encounter. If your baby is past the swaddle stage, you can even use your old swaddle blankets as a makeshift burp/spill bag! I use The aden&Anais muslin swaddle blankets, and they work perfectly.
Pacifier if you let baby soothe with a pacifier, you’ll want to have an extra one in your bag in case the one they are currently using gets lost, dropped, etc. My baby loves philips pacifiers, which are BPA free and inexpensive to replace. You won’t want to be stuck in a crowded area with a fussy baby without their pacifier, so this is something i never forget!
-Extra outfit thought you’re probably leaving the house with your baby fully dressed, we all know accidents can happen. If your baby has a diaper blowout, or a major spill, you’ll want to have something they can change into.
-Breastfeeding cover this is optional for breastfeeding moms, but i love it and use it regularly. Newborns eat so often that you may find yourself breasfeeding in public a lot a cover is a great way to be able to feed anywhere with privacy, especially when there is no restroom or nursing room available.
-Bottle with milk/formulaf you are not breastfeeding. And your baby is not eating solds just yet, have a prepared bottle in your bag in case feeding time pops up when you’re out.
Snack for baby if you have an older baby that is eating baby food or solids, you’ll want to be prepared with a snack in case they get cranky from hunger. A container of gerber graduates puffs is an easy snack to carry around, and you won’t have to keep replenishing it like you would single serving of a snack.
-Snack for parents as important as it is to prepare for your baby, you also have to think about yourself! you never know when you migh get stuck somewhere, and an extra granola bar thaat you can snack on might save your sanity! You can also include a small bottle of water! I add this item to my bag when i remember it.
-Sunscreen: I keep this in my bag in case i run into a sunny situation that i didn’t plan for. I use a sunscreen made specifically for babies, but i’ll often use it on myself too!
-ToyAn extra toy is key when you need to keep your child giggling and distracted. I especially love pulling out the toy in the car, or in a restaurant, where babies tend to get fussy.
There you have it! without these items, going out with my baby could be disaster waiting to happen. I use a bag that is just big enough to fit everything listed above, but not so big that is difficult to carry. At the end of the day, knowing that no matter what situation occurs, my baby will be clean, fed, and happy, is truly priceless! If you want to buy some diaper bags you can check out here.
