There has been a revival of interest in equine dentistry in the last few years which is great news for horses!

We have supplemented our anatomical and physiological knowledge of the horse’s dentition and biting by attending equine dentistry courses and are now well equipped to deal with anything that might be lurking inside your horse’s mouth.

Routine dental attention can be carried out on your yard or stable, this will involve a thorough examination of the teeth both visually and manually. The majority of horse will only require routine rasping or floating of the sharp points on the cheek teeth but if more serious dental abnormalities are detected these can be dealt with at the yard or you can bring your horse in to Rainbow Equine Clinic for further investigation.

Smelly nasal discharges or discharging sinuses from the lower jaw may be indicative of tooth root problems. Radiography and occasionally scintigraphy and endoscopy of the sinuses can be used in conjunction with a full oral examination to localise and diagnose the problem.

We have a good working relationship with many of the qualified equine dentists in the area and are happy to receive referrals from them to deal with dental problems requiring sedation or general anaesthesia.

Computer tomography allows us to accurately diagnose and locate the sources of problems within the sinuses of the horse. Rainbow Equine Clinic leads the way in the world at present being the only centre set up to do computer tomography on standing sedated horses.
